# Jón Þór Birgisson: Scent and Sound

Jón Þór Birgisson, known as Jónsi and the singer of Sigur Rós, is an Icelandic musician, artist and self-taught perfumer. In 2017 he founded [Fischersund](/brand/fischersund) with his family. The brand brings perfumery together with music, poetry and visual art, drawing on memories and Icelandic landscapes.

## Scent as an Installation

For FLÓÐ at Seattle's National Nordic Museum in 2023, Jónsi combined spatial sound, light and scent. The ocean became a subject both compelling and threatening. Seaweed from the Pacific and North Atlantic was processed for the olfactory experience. The perfume [Flóð](/perfume/fischersund-flod) was created for this work, bringing his musical and fragrance practices into direct conversation.
