# Spyros Drosopoulos: From Neuroscience to Niche Perfumery
## A Scientist's Path to Scent
Spyros Drosopoulos was born in the Netherlands, raised in Greece, and educated in Germany, giving him a rich multicultural perspective. He holds a doctorate in neuroscience with a focus on memory function, and before dedicating himself to perfumery, he held a teaching position at the University of Amsterdam.
In 2009, an introductory perfume-making class changed the course of his life. Inspired by the first generation of independent niche perfumers who demonstrated that formal training at a fragrance house was not the only path, Drosopoulos spent years intensively studying and experimenting with hundreds of materials. By 2012, he had become a full-time independent perfumer, and in 2015 he founded his own brand Baruti, named after the Greek word for gunpowder. His scientific background gives him a unique understanding of how scent interacts with memory and emotion.
## Baruti, Zoologist, and Beyond
Drosopoulos draws inspiration from music, art, and sensory contrasts. His creations for Baruti are known for their bold, unconventional character. Beyond his own brand and collaborations, Drosopoulos is involved in projects such as Scentronix, a start-up developing personalized fragrances using AI technology, and the Red List Project, which aims to conserve endangered plant species by preserving their scents. This combination of scientific rigor, artistic vision, and environmental consciousness makes him one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary niche perfumery.
