# Yves Cassar: Senior Perfumer at IFF
## Mediterranean Roots and Scientific Foundation
Yves Cassar spent his childhood on the Mediterranean coast of Algeria, surrounded by the powerful scents of his grandmother's garden filled with [citrus](/note/citric-notes), [jasmine](/note/jasmine), and [tuberose](/note/tuberose). These early olfactory memories would shape his entire career. He went on to earn degrees in Chemistry and Biology from the Universite Valrose in Nice, providing a rigorous scientific foundation for his future craft.
His first job in the fragrance industry took him to Grasse, where he analyzed the quality and purity of natural oils and aroma chemicals. This singular expertise in raw material evaluation sets him apart as a perfumer. After working at Florasynth Inc. from 1984 to 1996 and then Haarmann & Reimer as a Senior Perfumer, Cassar joined International Flavors & Fragrances (IFF) in 1998, where he rose to Vice President and Senior Perfumer.
## From Iconic Brands to Zoologist
Throughout his career spanning over three decades, Cassar has collaborated with some of the world's most prestigious fashion and fragrance houses, including Tom Ford, Giorgio Armani, Calvin Klein, Estee Lauder, and Abercrombie & Fitch. Notable creations include Tom Ford for Men and Estee Lauder Pure White Linen.
His collaboration with Zoologist on [Dodo Jackfruit Edition](/perfume/zoologist-dodo-jackfruit-edition) showcases his ability to bridge the worlds of mainstream luxury and niche artistry. The fragrance features a lush tropical composition led by [fruity notes](/note/fruity-notes), [bergamot](/note/bergamot), and [pink pepper](/note/pink-pepper), demonstrating Cassar's lifelong affinity for Mediterranean warmth and exotic ingredients. His approach seamlessly blends the science of scent with an appreciation for the emotional connections that fragrances can evoke.
