# Natasha Côté-Mouzannar: Canada's Only Perfumer
## A Bilingual Heritage and the Art of Moments
Natasha Côté-Mouzannar holds the distinction of being the only Canadian perfumer. Born in Quebec and raised in Toronto, she grew up in a bilingual family that nurtured her appreciation for both French and English-speaking cultures. Her simple, happy childhood and multicultural upbringing would later infuse her work with a deep sensitivity for diverse perspectives and the art of constructing moments through scent.
As a senior perfumer, Côté-Mouzannar developed her craft working alongside master perfumer Anne Flipo. Her approach to fragrance creation centers on finding the perfect accord where all elements find their rightful place while still standing out individually. She draws inspiration from everyday life: people, conversations, travel, cooking, and especially the wisdom of older generations, cherishing the stories they share and the connections they forge.
## Fragrance Philosophy and Zoologist Collaboration
Côté-Mouzannar's portfolio spans commercial and niche perfumery, with notable creations including fragrances for Katy Perry and Natura. For Zoologist Perfumes, she composed [Northern Cardinal](/perfume/zoologist-northern-cardinal), a distinguished chypre fragrance that captures the bold, territorial spirit of the iconic red songbird through layers of [bergamot](/note/bergamot), [leather](/note/leather), and [oakmoss](/note/oakmoss).
Her perfumes embody her belief in celebrating individuality and the unity of diverse parts. Like the Northern Cardinal's vivid plumage standing out against a winter landscape, her compositions balance harmony and contrast, creating fragrances that are both cohesive and full of character.
